Camping is a fun activity that you can enjoy with family and friends, and you should plan your upcoming camping trip in a beautiful area located near Dallas-Fort Worth: Lake Ray Roberts. This pristine state park offers stunning views and modern amenities, so that you can choose the perfect camping experience to match your preferences. There are 2 main units or parks located within Lake Ray Roberts State Park, Isle Du Bois and Johnson Branch, with hundreds of campsites to choose from.

Types of Campsites

Some of the campsites are developed and modern, offering a tent pad, running water nearby, a picnic table, fire ring, and accessible restrooms. Or, you can choose a remote camping experience if you prefer something that is a little more private and secluded.

If you are in the area for horseback riding, consider booking a campsite at the Isle du Bois equestrian area, where you can find hitching/tethering poles for your animals. These sites are perfect if you want a quiet place to relax between your daily rides.

Group Activities

Are you planning a bigger group event, such as a family reunion or a corporate party? Schedule one of the walk-in group sites that offer pavilions and amenities. Your guests will love the beauty of the surrounding area, and it is a great location if you want to enjoy the outdoor experience without sacrificing some of the modern amenities such as nearby restrooms, running water, and electricity.

Isle Du Bois vs Johnson Branch

Camping at Isle Du Bois and the Johnson Branch Units are very similar.  The parks themselves are almost mirrors of each other.  They both have well over one hundred campsites available many of which have water and electric hookups.  The major difference is the Isle Du Bois Unit tends to be a bit more crowded because it is on the south side of the lake and closer to Dallas-Fort Worth.  The Isle Du Bois is also slightly nicer with a huge fishing pier and a very slightly nicer beach area.  In general, the camping at both tends to be very shaded with plenty of trees and plenty of lakeside campsites.

Camping Amenities Include:

  • Picnic tables
  • Fire rings
